Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance today applauded Sen. Wayne Schmidt and Rep. John Roth for their effort in sponsoring legislation to incentivize the development of workforce housing.
Senate Bills 362, 364, 422 and 432 create tax incentives for developers looking to provide median-income housing in an area that first receives municipal, township or county sign-off.
“The Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance, along with Housing North and Housing Michigan Coalition worked very hard to draft and pass these bills. We are pleased to see the Governor and the Legislature collaborate in a bipartisan fashion to address affordable housing needs in northern Michigan and across the state,” said Alliance Director of Government Relations Henry Wolf. “We look forward to continued progress to address housing challenges in the new year.”
“We are thankful to the Governor and our partners in the Legislature for their work on this package,” said Alliance Partner and Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce President Stacie Bytwork. “The Alliance looks forward to discussing phase two of the Housing Michigan Coalition Legislation at the Northern Michigan Policy Conference on January 20.”
